Pen Type-B

Pen Type-B

A minimal everyday pen, over-engineered to last generations.

The ultimate pen for illustrators, designers, and architects.

Precision machined to create a piston-like effect between the pen and sleeve. The pen falls slowly and makes a nice popping sound when you pull it quickly from its sleeve.

No visible logo.

Precision machined flat so it won't roll off your desk.

A super minimal everyday pen, engineered to last generations.

The ultimate pen for illustrators, designers, and architects.

The ultra-high machining tolerances between the pen and sleeve create a piston-like effect. The pen falls slowly into its sleeve and makes a nice popping sound when you pull it out quickly.

Pen Type-B has no visible logo.

The brass sleeve purposely doesn't have a coating, so your Pen Type-B can develop its own unique patina over time as you handle your pen.

Titanium Pen Type-B is available with a matte black ceramic-polymer coating (Cerakote). The coating is durable, but over time it will wear to reveal the titanium underneath. We think it gives a kind of cool and rugged feel.

Pen Type-B in titanium weighs almost half the weight of its brass and stainless steel counterpart. It's got the hardness of stainless steel and the lightness of aluminum. That's really hard to beat. Titanium is the ultimate material. Both the sleeve and the pen are made of titanium.

Order a Pen Type-B with a custom laser engraving on the flat surface of the pen sleeve.

Available with a 3D printed fancy case.

Pen Type-B (along with all of our other pens) are manufactured at a multi-generation machine shop in Vermont. Each pen is carefully made above and beyond the necessary tolerances to ensure a perfect fit between the pen and the sleeve. It takes over 20 highly tuned operations to craft a Pen Type-B.

Pen Type-B ships with a Black Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.3mm cartridge.

To replace the ink cartridge, simply unscrew the back of the pen with a coin.

Hi Tec-C cartridges are available in 4 line widths and over 30 colors (bit.ly/hiteccjp). You can also purchase refills here.

There are also a bunch of other ink cartridges that are compatible with Pen Type-A.

Comparing to Type A

The profile of Type B makes it more EDC friendly. I do miss having the ruler of Type A readily available especially for BuJo. I also got the case and have to say the craftsmanship on the case is to a lesser degree comparing to the pen. It has that unrefined look probably due to it being 3D printed. Overall, I am very happy with the Type B pen. If you like some weight to your pen, I would recommend getting the non titanium.

Pen type B polished titanium

Everything is good except ink leaks time to time and it leaves some ink on the pen so that ink stains my hand.

My EDC Pen for LIFE!

Excellent, excellent pen! This thing is a work of art and I get compliments ALL the time. I carry this pen everywhere and all day. The brass feels good and solid in the hand and in the pocket. The "POP!" is addictive and my kids want to try it every time they see the pen. The "CLICK!" when the pen drops and engages the magnet is also addictive and the piston-like slow drop is mesmerizing. Ugh, I just love this pen so much... I'm not a huge fan of the Hi-Tec-C cartridge, but I got their 2mm adapter and a set of Zebra EQ refills (which are ridiculously smooth and great for EDC). Once I wrapped a little tape around the end of the refill and inserted the adapter, the pen was TIGHT and the ink was a joy to use. BUY. THIS. PEN.

Nicely designed

I’m very impressed with the design of this pen. I purchased the brass finish and it’s has a very unique look. I’ve received several compliments already. A few features I’ve come to appreciate: a) magnetization holds the pen closed, and also anchors it to metal surfaces, b) the flat edge along the side keeps the pen from rolling off a flat surface, c) the “pop” sound that happens when opening it is a nice effect. Two issues I’m currently having are: a) overall the pen is heavy and I find myself keeping the two parts of the pen separated in order to write comfortably, without too much weight, and b) the ink insert is not working very well, (I usually have to scribble for a little while before it will even write). This might just be a faulty ink insert, I’m not sure. Overall I like the pen a lot. The weight issue I can live with. I just want to solve the ink issue.

Hi Adam. Let me know if you're still having issues with the ink. We can send you a new cartridge to try out.
